John Heywood
John paints coastal scenes, river scenes and landscapes. For about 20 years exclusively a watercolour painter, he started to paint in acrylics about 7 years ago and today almost all of his paintings are painted in acrylic on board. John has been an elected member of the Buckinghamshire Art Society since 1998 and was Chairman of the Society from 2003 to 2005.
Whenever possible John paints 'en plein air', setting his easel up in front of the scene he wants to paint. The interaction of light and water, in different seasons, weather conditions and times of the day, holds a particular fascination for John; loving the colours of our local Chilterns countryside as they change through the different seasons. John has had a cottage (and second studio) on the Isles of Scilly since 1990 and loves to paint wherever he travels overseas, with annual visits to family in New South Wales and to the Greek Islands -all places with interesting coastal scenery!
